New Telephoto Zoom Lens for the LUMIX S Series with Macro Capability: LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. (S-R70300)

Panasonic is proud to announce the release of a new interchangeable telephoto zoom lens, the LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. (S-R70300) based on the
L-Mount system and designed for LUMIX S Series full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The new LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. boasts high descriptive performance and beautiful bokeh at the entire zoom range, which makes it possible to render exceptionally impressive stills and video. It also provides high-speed, high-precision AF and Dual I.S. for agile mobility, allowing it to be used in wide-ranging shooting situations including sports, animals, portraits, aircraft and vehicles.

This telephoto zoom lens with macro capability is compact and lightweight for excellent versatility. The rugged dust/splash-resistant[i] design withstands use under harsh conditions down to a temperature of -10 degrees Celsius. In addition, the fluorine coating on the front element repels water and oil.

With a minimum focusing distance of 0.54m[ii], the S-R70300 achieves maximum magnification of 0.5x (at 300mm) for macro photography and videography. A circular aperture with an 11-bladed iris diaphragm provides beautifully rounded bokeh effects.

With an O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) in the S-R70300 lens and Body I.S. in LUMIX S Series cameras, the LUMIX Dual I.S system powerfully compensates for handshake in telephoto shooting, making it possible to use a 5.5-stop slower shutter speed[iii]. Focus control with a maximum 480 fps high-speed sensor drive achieves fast, high-precision AF.

The optimum alignment of 17 lens elements in 11 groups including 1 UED (Ultra Extra-low Dispersion) lens, 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses and 1 UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index) suppresses both axial chromatic aberration at tele-end and chromatic aberration of magnification at wide-end. The UHR lens achieves uniform image quality from the centre to the edges of the image while contributing to the downsizing of the lens unit. The lens excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that minimises focus breathing, and focus shift is suppressed during zooming with an exceptional zoom tracking performance so that the subject is always in clear focus.

The S-R70300 is priced at $2199 RRP, and will be available in April 2021 from leading photographic specialists.

For further information, please visit www.panasonic.com.au or call 132 600.

[i] Dust and Splash Resistant does not guarantee that damage will not occur if this lens is subjected to direct contact with dust and water. To avoid damage when using the camera under these conditions, it must be used in accordance with associated instructions in the manual.

OTTAVA™ SC-C70MK2 All-in-One Music System: Refined sound and design arrives for Christmas

Technics has launched the new Premium Class OTTAVA™ SC-C70MK2 all-in-one music system, designed for high-quality audio enjoyment in style.

The SC-C70MK2 further refines the sound quality, capabilities, and design of the original SC-C70. Audio performance on this latest model is enhanced with an exclusively developed 8-cm woofer unit and 2-cm dome tweeter unit.

In keeping with the Technics premium design philosophy, the sleek and attractive SC-C70 is available in a choice of silver or black and sports an aluminium top panel, louvred front grille and unique manual CD tray.

Aaron Waters, Product Marketing Manager – Audio and Video, Panasonic, said:  “The SC-C70MK2 all-in-one music system offers pure sound, convenient set up and streaming, and a design to match modern interiors. Arriving in time for Christmas, this is the perfect gift for the discerning music lover who wants to enjoy their music collection as well as audio from today’s diverse sources.”

The SC-C70MK2 features a new tweeter combined with an acoustic lens whose shape is optimised to deliver more expansive sound. Just like its predecessor, the SC-C70MK2 features a 2.1ch speaker system that includes a 12-cm subwoofer. The speaker system is powerfully driven by three units of Technics’ original digital amp, JENO Engine, to reproduce full-bodied sound from a compact unit. ‘Space Tune Auto’ with an integrated microphone allows for quick calibration and optimum performance in a range of room environments.

The music system supports a wide range of music sources including CD and radio as well as streaming services such as Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2 and Deezer. The SC-C70MK2 also works with Google Assistant.

The new model is available now via selected audio specialist retailers.

Premium Compact Stereo System SC-C70MK2: $1649 RRP

Re-mastered sound quality for an expansive, rich soundscape

Newly Developed Speaker Units & Acoustic Lens

The SC-C70MK2’s 8-cm woofer unit offers significant improvements, such as the reduced weight of the voice coil, enhanced airflow and increased rigidity of the diaphragm. The woofer provides superb response and sound clarity to reproduce mid- and high-frequency sounds comfortable to the ear. The high-res-ready 2-cm dome tweeter unit features a lighter silk diaphragm to provide beautiful lingering sound. What’s more, the acoustic lens is optimised for the new tweeter shape and enhances the expansiveness of reproduced sound.

Faithful sound with three JENO Engines and LAPC

Three “JENO Engine” full digital amplifier units ensure faithful reproduction of rich sounds with the 2.1ch configuration, driving the left and right channels and subwoofer. The SC-C70MK2 also features the LAPC function, which is load adaptive amplifier technology developed by Technics to ensure perfect alignment with the speakers. The system measures the phase and impedance properties of the integrated speakers and optimises the resulting sound output using the data it has obtained.

Twin Power Supply Circuit System for noise reduction

Regular power supplies use one transformer to supply power to the amp, and digital circuits, so if there is any load fluctuation or if noise occurs on a circuit, other circuits are affected, which results in degradation of sound quality. The SC-C70MK2’s power supply system includes independently installed switch mode power supply circuitry for the amp and the other circuits. This eliminates mutual interference, thereby reducing sound degradation caused by noise or power supply fluctuations. In addition, a layout with dedicated transformer and amp circuits enables the shortest possible connection to further reduce noise.

Re-master enhances sound quality from streaming sources

The high-precision signal processing circuitry of the JENO Engine expands the frequency band of Bluetooth and Internet radio sources – in which high-frequency signals are commonly lost due to signal compression – to a range equivalent to that of a CD source. This eliminates the lack of expansiveness in high-frequency sound and the loss of sound detail, and delivers enhanced sound quality.

Optimised sound space, easy enjoyment of music content and a diversity of connectivity

Space Tune™

The SC-C70MK2 features Space Tune™ Auto to achieve balanced sound at the press of a button. This function measures test tones via a built-in microphone to analyse the distance to walls and the effects of sound reflection. It then automatically optimises the sound field. Three presets (Free, Near the Wall, and Near the Corner) allow for easy setting, and the Technics Audio Center app can also be used to precisely adjust the sound quality to the listening position.

Chromecast built-in

The Chromecast built-in function supports a wide variety of music streaming services for easy casting from a smartphone app. And since the data is streamed directly to the main unit, there is no degradation in sound quality, and the user can select from a diverse range of music.

Works with Google Assistant

If a Google Assistant built-in device is included in the same network, Google Assistant can be used to operate SC-C70MK2 music playback and other functions. When the user doesn’t have a smartphone app, or when hands are full, music can be easily played by voice command.

Multi-room

With a number of Chromecast built-in speakers, a variety of music streaming services can be played in several rooms, or different music can be played from room to room*. In addition, if you use the ‘Technics Audio Center app’ and have another app-compatible Technics device, you can also enjoy other music sources in multi-room such as Bluetooth, AUX, Optical input, USB, Internet radio and SC-C70MK2-compatible streaming music.

* The Google Home App is required.

Complete Compatibility

In addition to CDs and radio, this model is now compatible with Chromecast built-in, and supports a wide range of music streaming services, as well as being compatible with Spotify Connect, Deezer and Internet radio. It also supports AirPlay 2, Bluetooth Wi-Fi, network playback, USB memory playback and analogue/optical input. The UI of the iOS/Android smartphone app, “Technics Audio Center App” has also been redesigned, making it easier to use than ever before.

Favourite Function

Up to 9 presets can be set on the main unit, such as favourite internet radio stations, and USB songs. This makes it possible to listen to your preferred music without even starting up an app.

LUMIX S5

Panasonic is delighted to announce the new LUMIX S5, a hybrid full-frame mirrorless camera in a highly mobile body that delivers powerful video performance, amazing photography and solid reliability for content creators.

James Choi, Product Marketing Manager, Imaging, Panasonic, explained: “The hybrid S5 packs the essential capabilities of our ground-breaking flagship S Series cameras into a small, mobile and robust body. Enthusiasts who want to take their creativity to the next level can harness the incredible image quality of a powerful full-frame sensor. The S5’s compact size belies the impressive performance under the hood – this camera is class-leading in the sheer breadth of video and stills capabilities it puts in the hands of content creators.”

The S5 is packed with impressive video capabilities, including 4K 60p 10-bit internal recording and external output via HDMI, full Varicam V-log profile pre-installed in the camera, 4:3 Anamorphic Super 35 mode and up to 180 frames per second (fps) Slow Motion shooting. The camera is also compatible with Panasonic’s DMW-XLR1 microphone adaptor, allowing professional audio equipment to be used in video creation. Additionally, RAW video output via HDMI up to 5.9K will be available via a future firmware update.

LUMIX S5

For hybrid shooters who want to take a step up, the S5 delivers stunning image quality and greater creative scope. It contains the 24.2-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor first introduced in the LUMIX S1, providing impressive low-light performance and incredibly high dynamic range. This is backed by the 5-axis Dual I.S. 2 image stabilisation system with up to 6.5-stops[i] of camera shake correction for handheld shooting. The camera also incorporates an improved Deep Learning autofocus algorithm that detects specific subjects – humans and fast-moving animals – with great accuracy.

Inspired by the flagship S Series professional camera lineup, the S5 provides enthusiasts with a compact, durable camera designed for field use. The camera’s full magnesium alloy weather-sealed body is splash and dust resistant, essential for working in a range of environmental conditions. Dual SD card slots offer further flexibility with relay recording and backup support. A large, high-resolution OLED viewfinder delivers quick response with minimum distortion for easy and accurate framing of the scene.

Creative aids for expressive photography include “Live View Composite”, newly-introduced to the S Series with the S5, which combines multiple exposures into a single image that emphasises bright points while suppressing overexposure of the total image and maintaining the shadows, thus reducing the learning curve for light painting and long exposure photography. The S5 also features sensor-shift 96-megapixel (MP) high resolution mode, which can capture detailed landscapes with increased dynamic range and colour reproduction, with files created in-camera without the need for external software.

Panasonic is currently developing a number of S Series prime and zoom lenses at popular focal lengths, designed to further expand the creative possibilities for LUMIX S Series users. These new portable and lightweight lenses include a 24mm F1.8, 35mm F1.8, 50mm F1.8, 85mm F1.8 and a 70-300mm F4.5-5.6, all of which will complement the S5 very well.

Key LUMIX S5 Capabilities

Exceptional recording performance for video creation

As a pioneer of photo/video hybrid mirrorless cameras, LUMIX has the largest lineup of cameras that record 4K 10-bit video[ii]. The S5 is no exception, and is capable of unlimited 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output and also delivers unlimited 4K 30p/25p 4:2:0 8-bit internal recording. In addition, 4K 60p/50p 4:2:0 10-bit and 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit can be recorded internally for up to 30 minutes.

LUMIX S5

The camera features V-Log/V-Gamut with a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops, in line with the dynamic range of the Panasonic VariCam, to precisely capture everything from dark to bright areas. Subtle gradations such as skin tones are faithfully reproduced. Designed with consistent color management in mind, the recorded footage is easily matched with V-Log footage recorded by the LUMIX S1/S1H or LUMIX GH5/GH5S, for an easier post production workflow. Practical tools like a Waveform Monitor and V-Log View Assist are included.

Slow & Quick mode enables impressive slow and quick motion video with autofocus[iii], and can be accessed directly using the mode dial. In 4K the S5 achieves up to 30x quick or 2.5x slow motion at 1-60fps, and in FHD it achieves 60x quick or 7.5x slow motion[iv] at 1-180fps.

The S5 has a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor (35.6 mm x 23.8mm) with Dual Native ISO technology. The sensor can leverage a dual-base ISO setting, resulting in minimised noise and outstanding image quality from low to high sensitivity. Dual Native ISO provides a greater variety of artistic choices, with the ability to use less light if desired. The S5’s Dual Native ISOs are 640 and 4000[v] in V-Log. This feature teams up with the Venus Engine processor to deliver a maximum ISO of up to 51200.

With the new Live View Composite function, the camera releases the shutter at designated exposure intervals and produces a single picture combining all the areas of high luminosity such as lights, stars or fireworks. The photographer can monitor this in Live View.

Panasonic’s 5-Axis Dual I.S. 2 offers excellent stability in a range of situations. A high-precision gyrosensor joins the Dual I.S. system of 5-axis in-body stabilisation and 2-axis optical stabilisation in selected lenses for highly accurate shake detection and compensation. This makes it possible to use up to 6.5 stops[vi] slower shutter speed in both photo and video. Incredibly stable performance can be achieved when shooting handheld at much slower shutter speeds and lower ISO values, reducing the need to carry a tripod or gimbal.

High-speed, high-precision AF supported by real-time detection technology

Panasonic has achieved high-speed AF with its advanced control technology incorporating the major devices – lens, sensor and imaging engine. The lens and sensor communicate at a maximum 480 fps. Contrast AF with DFD technology allows the S5 to achieve an ultra high-speed, high-precision AF of approximately 0.08[vii] sec. It also excels in low-light shooting, with -6EV[viii] luminance detection performance in Low Light AF, thanks to the higher sensitivity and optimised tuning of the sensor.

The S5 also incorporates an improved Deep Learning autofocus algorithm that offers greater accuracy in detecting specific subjects – including humans, people’s faces, and fast-moving animals. In addition to the eye, face and body, the head is also separately recognised by real-time detection technology to provide even more precise focusing. The camera keeps tracking subjects when they move quickly, turn away, tilt their head or move far away from the camera. Also, improvements to DFD technology have enhanced AFC, which allows the camera to keep tracking small or fast-moving subjects and capture them in crisp focus.

Reliable performance plus expandability for creative freedom

To withstand heavy field use, the S5 has a magnesium alloy full die-cast body and is splash/dust-resistant[ix]. With an optimum layout of heat dispersion components, heat is effectively transferred externally, which results in stable, continuous video recording for an extended time.

The large OLED LVF (Live View Finder) has a magnification ratio of approx. 0.74x, 2,360K-dot high resolution and a minimum time lag of less than 0.005 sec. A versatile free-angle 3.0-inch LCD rear monitor (3:2 aspect, approx.1840K-dot) with touch control allows for quick changes to settings, even when the user is in front of the camera.

LUMIX S5

Other shooting assist functions include Frame Markers for checking composition during recording. A wide range of aspect ratios are supported, including those for popular social media platforms – 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 5:4 and 9:16. In addition, the REC Frame Indicator displays an eye-catching red frame for checking at a glance if the camera is recording or not.

The S5 has dual SD Card slots – one slot complies with the high-speed, high-capacity UHS-II (Video Class 90) and the other with UHS-I. Users can select Relay Recording, Backup Recording or Allocation Recording modes.

The camera uses a new DMW-BLK22 high-capacity battery which meets its power demands in a small form factor. The S5 battery is also backwards compatible with the GH5, GH5S and G9. The camera’s battery can be recharged either via AC or USB, which is convenient if you are travelling and want to use a USB power bank. The S5 is also capable of power supply and delivery via USB-C, making it possible to continuously power the camera with a USB power source.

Content sharing with smartphones is streamlined using Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy connection, Wi-Fi 5-GHz (IEEE802.11ac) and 2.4-GHz (IEEE 802.11b/g/n). With an always-on Bluetooth connection, a smartphone can act as the camera’s remote control via the LUMIX Sync app. The settings of an S5 camera can also be copied and transmitted to other S5 cameras when shooting using multiple cameras.

The S5 is compatible with the LUMIX Tether applications which enable tethered shooting via USB. Users can control the camera by connecting it to a PC. Images can be viewed on a large PC screen while shooting, which is useful in situations where continuous confirmation is required. For live streaming, LUMIX Tether for Streaming (Beta) with LIVE VIEW mode is available. LUMIX Sync for iOS/Android devices enables image transfer to a smartphone or tablet via easy wireless connection.

Convenient optional accessories

A variety of optional accessories can be used with the S5. They include a Microphone Adaptor (DMW-XLR1) for professional XLR microphones to record high-quality stereo sound, as well as switchable Mic, Line and Condenser Microphones. The Battery Grip (DMW-BGS5) extends battery life and provides controls for portrait oriented shooting. Other accessories include a Remote Shutter (DMW-RS2), DC coupler (DMW-DCC17), and Tripod Grip (DMW-SHGR1).

Planned firmware updates for the LUMIX S1R, S1H and S1

Panasonic will release firmware updates for the LUMIX S1R, S1H and S1 by the end of 2020. New firmware will enable the S1R to record 5K video, making the most of its high-resolution image sensor. In addition, the AF improvements introduced with the S5 will be available on the S1R, S1H and S1 for both video recording and still shooting. In addition to the eye, face and body, the head is also separately recognised by real-time detection technology to provide even more precise focusing. Dual Hybrid Noise Cancelling Technology (RZ-S500W only)

The RZ-S500W employs two systems to deliver an impressive noise cancelling effect that allows listeners to fully engage with their music.

With Dual Hybrid Noise Cancelling, two microphones in each earphone provide effective Feedforward Noise Cancelling (FF-NC) and Feedback Noise Cancelling (FB-NC) to combat noise from outside and inside the ear, respectively. Digital and analogue processing of the captured noise ensures rich, distraction-free rendition of your favourite tracks – perfect for commuting and tuning out background noise.

Stable Connection and Design Comfort

Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity delivers an uninterrupted listening experience, even in high-traffic areas, to ensure important phone calls are received loud and clear, and favourite songs never miss a beat. Panasonic’s integrated Bluetooth antenna and touch sensor design provide a reliable connection, while ensuring the earphones are both compact and comfortable. In addition, the independent right/left channel signalling system maintains sound balance, allowing users to enjoy immersive content in any environment, regardless of the smartphone or operating system (OS).

Excellent Call Sound Quality

Three high-performance Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) microphones in each earpiece further contribute to the earphones’ noise cancelling performance. The microphones, combined with a unique labyrinth structure, suppress wind noise and other interference for clear, natural call quality.

Panasonic Audio Connect App

Compatibility with the free Panasonic Audio Connect[ii] app means the earphones can be completely customised via your smartphone. Monitor balance levels, fine-tune your noise cancelling level and configure pre-set sound modes to suit your favourite type of music and listening preferences.

RB-M700B, RB-M500B and RB-M300B wireless headphones

XBS DEEP Delivers Premium Bass That Moves

Equipped with Panasonic’s bass playback technology “XBS DEEP[iii] (Extra Bass System Deep)”, the headphones are built for enjoying low frequency music with thumping bass vibrations that you can actually feel.

A Free-Edge Driver System uses a highly elastic nanofiber diaphragm to generate impressive bass with maximum precision and minimum distortion.

The RB-MB700B also offers Active Noise Cancelling, providing the freedom of blocking out all distractions for total immersion.

Experience Concert-Quality Bass Sound (RB-M700B, RB-M500B)

Further improving the bass performance is the built-in Bass Reactor which amplifies low frequencies with actual vibration in response to the track’s bass sounds. The Bass Reactor simulates deep, booming bass, like that in a night club, by transmitting amplified low-end sound directly to the ears as real low-frequency vibrations.

Bass-blow Port

The headphones’ structure further contributes to the bass performance with optimal positioning of the air outflow port in the cabinet, allowing the diaphragm’s precise piston movement to crisply reproduce low-end frequency outlines.

Designed for Comfort and Long-Term Wear

The headphones are designed for comfortable, long-term wear, with Side Pressure Dispersion Technology which evenly spreads pressure around your ears. This ergonomic design delivers all-day comfort, making the headphones perfect for long commutes or gaming sessions.

[i] Only the earphones are compatible with IPX4. It does not include the charging cradle.

[ii] Compatible with smartphones and tablets that are equipped with Android™ 6.0 or higher and supports Google Play™, or an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch equipped with iOS9.3 or higher.

[iii] XBS DEEP (Extra Bass System Deep) is a fusion of three technologies: Harmonic Tuning EQ, Free-Edge Driver System, and Bass-Blow Port.

As “LUMIX Tether” is a software program originally designed for tethered shooting, Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) such as a focus area mark, as well as control panels, are displayed with live view images on a monitor during USB tethering. However, these graphic items become a hindrance when the software is used to capture a camera view for live streaming. In response to customer requests, LIVE VIEW mode has been added on “LUMIX Tether for Streaming (Beta)”. It enables display of the camera view only, making it easy for separate streaming software to read it. Users can choose to show or hide these graphic items during USB tethering according to their requirements.

“LUMIX Tether for Streaming (Beta)” for Mac is provided as a pre-release version that is currently still under development. Please note that this software is not eligible for operation warranty and customer support. Compatible LUMIX models are: GH5, G9, GH5S, S1, S1R, S1H.

Panasonic has strengthened its popular AndroidTM line-up with the launch of the TOUGHBOOK A3, a fully rugged tablet with a 10.1 inch display. With Australian businesses increasingly turning to AndroidTM for their rugged mobile tablet and handheld needs, the TOUGHBOOK A3 is ideal for emergency services personnel, utilities and field service agents, transport and logistics operators and mining professionals.

The fully rugged device has a powerful battery life of nine hours[1] with standard batteries and 15 hours using the optional large battery with dual battery capability. Available in Australia from August 2020, the TOUGHBOOK A3 is designed for use and easy viewing in all light and weather conditions and boasts a range of flexible port options that can be configured to meet the needs of mobile workforces. Bolstering its position as a leading rugged device, the TOUGHBOOK A3 is also in the process of obtaining approval as an Android Enterprise Recommended (AER) device, to meet Google’s strict enterprise requirements for hardware and software.

“A successor to the popular TOUGHBOOK A2, this latest device is more rugged, powerful and able to work even longer in the field than its predecessor,” said Ranjit Sohoni, Senior Product & Marketing Manager Oceania – Mobility Solutions at Panasonic Australia.

“The TOUGHBOOK A3 is ready-made for mobile workers in warehouses and using forklifts; field service agents and automotive workers needing devices for diagnostics, data management and operational controls; and emergency services personnel requiring a secure and effective mobile computing solution.”

The ability to pair the new TOUGHBOOK offering with existing Android systems is set to streamline processes in rapid response situations and give better control over logistics and warehouse management. Panasonic expects this to be particularly welcomed by the country’s emergency services and transport teams, given the unprecedented demand of their services in the past 12 months due to natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whether the requirement is scalability, flexibility or adaptability, the TOUGHBOOK A3 bolsters an organisation’s ability to deliver outstanding serviceability.

Tougher than ever

The TOUGHBOOK A3 is equipped to help mobile workers combat the toughest tasks in the field. It is water and dust resistant (IP65) and drop tested to 1.5 metres (MIL-STD-810H Certified). Clear and responsive display

The 10.1 inch outside viewable display (1920×1200) has been designed for easy use and clarity of vision both outside and indoors. The 10-point capacitive touchscreen display can be used by hand, gloved hand or with the capacitive stylus pen for accurate annotation or signature collection even in the rain. It also includes a front camera and microphone for video conferencing and a back camera with flash for document and image capture.

Flexible for business needs

The tablet comes with a rich set of business interfaces including USB Type-C® (USB 3.0) and USB Type-A (USB 2.0). Three different customisable gadget port options in five different combinations allow the device to be tailored to exact business requirements, including an optional smartcard reader, barcode reader or an additional USB Type-A (USB 2.0).

Ready for vehicle use, the TOUGHBOOK A3 can be used with a vehicle dock and its communication capabilities are unrivalled with Bluetooth 5.0, to deliver faster data exchange or communicate over longer distances. It also supports WLAN IEEE802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/d/h/i/r/k/v/w with MIMO functionality.
