Technics Australia has today unveiled three premium additions to its audio line-up, designed to deliver optimum quality and performance for the discerning Australian audiophile.

Technics SU-G700M2 Integrated Amplifier: successor to the highly acclaimed SU-G700

The new SU-G700M2 Integrated Amplifier builds upon the platform of its successful and widely acclaimed predecessor, the SU-G700. The new model is a typical example of Technics’ untiring efforts to constantly improve even its most accomplished audiophile products.

With the new SU-G700M2, advanced technologies derived from Technics’ Reference SU-R1000 Integrated Amplifier were trickled down to set a new standard at this price point. The SU-G700M2 inherits Technics’ full-digital core amplifier technologies, such as the JENO Engine (Jitter Elimination and Noise-Shaping Optimisation) for the highest signal precision free of jitter and distortion, and LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration) for optimal matching to any speaker.

Technics SB-G90M2 Floor-Standing Speaker System with impressive audiophile performance quality

The new SB-G90M2 is a floor-standing loudspeaker in the Grand Class series. Like its predecessor, the SB-G90, the new M2 version is a 3-way bass reflex speaker system consisting of a 2-way coaxial driver combining a 25mm dome and a 160mm midrange cone made of aluminium. This is accompanied by two 160mm woofers, also constructed from aluminium. Due to meticulous research and development, Technics’ engineering team has yet again succeeded in improving audiophile performance quality through knowledge in mechanical construction and evolutionary driver design.

With the new SB-G90M2, thorough CAE analysis was used to optimise drivers, elements, and enclosure structures to efficiently eliminate unwanted vibrations and distortions. Consequently, Technics has significantly improved the already outstanding performance qualities of the SB-G90. The new SB-G90M2 loudspeaker system demonstrates Technics’ leading position in manufacturing musically involving products with one single goal: to express an acoustic performance as close to the original as possible, regardless of musical genre. Below are the technical enhancements of the SB-G90M2 loudspeaker system in comparison to its predecessor, the SB-G90:

  • Advanced Phase Precision Driver: The diaphragm of the Coaxial Driver Unit has been reworked. The structure has been newly calculated by FEM (Finite Elements Method) simulation for reduced resonance and a more natural midrange with less distortion. Also, a Linear Phase Plug has been added, efficiently eliminating any phase disturbance, thus making the sound pressure characteristics of the tweeter more natural.
  • Advanced BDMA (Balanced Driver Mounting Architecture): The inner Speaker Mount Baffle onto which the woofers are mounted at their centre of gravity around the magnet has now been extended to one plate attached to the base board, so vibrations can ‘escape’ to the ground.
  • More Energetic Cabinet Structure: The whole inner stiffening structure has been redesigned in the lower part of the cabinet. The so-called Standing Wave Termination Structure – a multiple-folded wave guide containing a controlled amount of acoustically absorbing material – will efficiently eliminate standing waves, at the same time minimising the use of acoustic damping material.

Responding to requests from our customer base, the new SB-G90M2 now features bi-wiring speaker terminals.

nanoe™X Air Purification Technology Delivers Strong Results in Aged Care Trial

A leading Australian aged care provider recently engaged Panasonic to trial its unique nanoe™X air purification technology in two facilities in Albury and Wodonga, with an air quality analysis highlighting the true impact of such solutions in indoor living environments in Australia.

With Panasonic’s revolutionary nanoe™X technology, residents, staff and visitors to the facilities are enjoying a breath of ‘true’ fresh air as the 24-hour purification acts to neutralise harmful indoor pollutants such as VOCs, allergens, bacteria, mould and viruses, and reduce odours, creating a fresher and healthier living environment.

Australian Indoor Air quality experts Bell Laboratories conducted a detailed air quality analysis of the facilities, collecting samples from multiple locations within each facility before the installation of the revolutionary nanoe™X systems, and again two months later. It was found that odours were reduced by approximately 45 per cent and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) were reduced by approximately 50 per cent.

Panasonic announces new full-frame LUMIX BS1H: Box-style camera for live broadcast and cinema production

Panasonic is proud to unveil the LUMIX BS1H full-frame box-style camera. The LUMIX BS1H is designed for video professionals, combining the cinematic video performance of the LUMIX S1H with advanced live stream functionality in an easily-deployable box-style body.

Incorporating a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor, the LUMIX BS1H further enhances its potential by including 6K full-area high resolution video with unlimited recording, impressive flexibility over depth of field and low-light performance, a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops, V-Log and more.

The LUMIX BS1H provides incredible flexibility to support and deliver the creative vision of industry professionals, with industry standard connections and interfaces – such as SDI, HDMI, Genlock IN and Timecode I/O – as well as offering LAN with PoE+ for power and control.   1. Cinema production quality video with 35mm full-frame sensor

The LUMIX BS1H utilises the same 24.2-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor (35.6 mm x 23.8mm) as the critically acclaimed LUMIX S1H. The Venus Engine processor delivers minimised noise and outstanding image quality with a maximum ISO of 51200. In addition, an optical low-pass filter effectively suppresses moiré patterns.

By maximising the use of the pixels in the full-frame image sensor, the LUMIX BS1H is capable of 6K/24p, 5.4K/30p (3:2 aspect ratio) or 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio) high-resolution, smooth video recording. It also provides 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K[i] HEVC video recording when using the image area equivalent to Super 35mm. The 4:2:2 10-bit 4K30p is recordable in H.264 at its full area. Its high-resolution data can also be used for creating 4K videos with higher image quality or for cropping images in 4K.

The LUMIX BS1H features V-Log/V-Gamut with a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops, in line with the dynamic range of the Panasonic VariCam, to precisely capture everything from dark to bright areas. Subtle gradations such as skin tones are faithfully reproduced, and consistent colour management is achieved in post-production.

In addition to HDR (High Dynamic Range) video recording, the camera records video with a designated gamma curve compatible with ITU-R BT.2100 and offers Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) in Photo Style.

The camera also incorporates an advanced Deep Learning autofocus algorithm that offers greater accuracy in detecting specific subjects – including humans, people’s faces, and fast-moving animals. In addition to the eye, face and body, the head is also separately recognised by real-time detection technology to provide even more precise focusing. The camera keeps tracking subjects when they move quickly, turn away, tilt their head or move far away from the camera.

  1. A wide variety of recording formats, frame rates and resolutions in maximum 6K

The LUMIX BS1H is capable of 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 60p/50p HDMI output. With a highly efficient heat dispersion structure, it can deliver unlimited video recording in a variety of recording formats, including 4:3 Anamorphic mode, to meet professional requirements for long form shooting.

In addition, with two alternatives for RAW workflow[ii], the LUMIX BS1H provides further support for wide-ranging creative needs. [5.9K] / [4K] / [Anamorphic (4:3) 3.5K] 12-bit RAW video data can be output over HDMI to save Apple ProRes RAW video on the Atomos Ninja V or Blackmagic RAW on the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR external recorder.

  • V-Log or V709 is selectable on the external monitor through SDI during RAW output.
  • Shooting assist functions including V-log View Assist, Luminance Spot Meter and Zebra Pattern can be used during RAW output.

VFR (variable frame rate) functionality supports video overcranking and undercranking. Users have access to 2.5x slow (24p/60 fps) in C4K/4K and 7.5x super-slow (24p/180 fps) in FHD. The minimum frame rate for quick motion video is 2 fps. In addition, HFR (High Frame Rate) recording includes audio and autofocus, allowing creation of slow-motion video in post-production.

To support live streaming, the LUMIX BS1H provides an IP streaming function over ethernet that enables high-quality image transmission to a PC on a wired network that can then be live streamed to the preferred social platform using PC software. Notably, the LUMIX BS1H can transmit 4K 60p (50p) video in H.265. H.265 is highly efficient, requiring half the bitrate when transmitting video with the same image quality as H.264, thus providing 2x higher image quality when transmitting at the same bitrate as H.264. Transmitting video in ultra-high definition 4K at low bitrates is possible even in low bandwidth situations.

  1. A wide range of connections for unlimited possibilities

With a body frame composed of aluminium and magnesium alloy, the LUMIX BS1H is compact and lightweight yet durable enough for field operation. This box-style camera provides a variety of practical ports. The LUMIX BS1H complies with Power over Ethernet+ (PoE+) which allows the camera to be operated and powered using a single ethernet cable through compatible peripherals. Control over a maximum of 12 BS1H cameras[iii] is available using Panasonic PC software LUMIX Tether for Multicam[iv]. Terminals include USB 3.1 Type-C; plus 3G-SDI and HDMI Type-A which can be used for simultaneous output. In addition, Genlock IN (BNC) and Timecode IN/OUT (BNC) functions enable multi-angle synchronised video recording to support a scalable system with third-party external monitors, rigs and gimbals. The camera is also equipped with two SD Card slots for backup or relay recording.

When using LUMIX S Series lenses with the BS1H, Linear Focus control is available for smooth and repeatable focus transitions. In addition, during video recording, Boost I.S. (Image Stabiliser) can be used when S Series lenses with Optical Image Stabilisation are mounted.

New F1.8 Wide-Angle Fixed Focal Length Lens for the LUMIX S Series: Compact, Lightweight LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 (S-S24)

Panasonic has announced a new large-aperture wide-angle fixed focal length LUMIX S Series lens, the 24mm F1.8 (S-S24). Following the 50mm and 85mm models, it is the third addition to the planned series of four F1.8 large-aperture lenses based on the L-Mount system.

The LUMIX F1.8 lens series has a common positioning of controls for ease of use and a common barrel diameter that provides the convenience of using the same filters. Using lenses of a similar size, diameter, and centre of gravity also makes it easier to switch between them when an S Series camera is mounted on a gimbal, for example. A 35mm F1.8 large-aperture lens is also under development to further enhance the LUMIX S Series lens lineup.

The LUMIX S-S24 has a rugged dust/splash-resistant[i] design to withstand use under harsh environmental conditions down to a temperature of -10 degrees Celsius. At a compact 310g, it’s an ideal partner for LUMIX S Series full-frame mirrorless cameras such as the LUMIX S5. The versatile wide angle of view is suitable for situations from landscapes to travel photography.

The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 is comprised of twelve lens elements in eleven groups including three aspherical lenses, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses and one UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens. The use of three aspherical lenses achieves beautiful bokeh, a common advantage across the series, while the ED lenses and the UED lens suppress chromatic aberration. The filter diameter is 67 mm, with a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm. The lens also excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing.

The S-S24 is compatible with the LUMIX sensor drive at 240 fps to take advantage of the high-speed, high-precision auto focusing. For the non-linear setting, focus is shifted with a variable amount according to the rotation speed of the focus ring; while for linear setting, focus is shifted with a designated amount according to the rotational quantum of the focus ring. Sensitivity (the amount of focus shift per rotational quantum) can be selected from 90 to 360 degrees by 30 degree increments.

The optical design achieves exceptional barycentric stability to minimise image shifts during zooming, while a focus ring provides intuitive, precise focusing and incorporates linear/non-linear settings. Speaker Design

The SB-C700 achieves high transparency and a precise sound image, delivering on the Technics linear-phase, point-sound-source concept. The flat coaxial two-way speaker drive unit is an original Technics development, designed for the faithful reproduction of mid-range and high-frequency sound.

The speaker unit combines a tweeter for high frequencies and a woofer for mid-range and bass. Because the tweeter is at the center of the woofer, the speaker acts as a point sound source, providing a coherent, integrated sound across the frequency range, without directional anomalies.

The flat woofer diaphragm has a sandwich-structure using lightweight, high-rigidity carbon fibre skins and a honeycomb core, and is designed for a highly accurate pistonic motion over a frequency range extending beyond the crossover frequency with the tweeter, thus ensuring smooth integration.

Cabinet Design

The SB-C700 cabinet is designed to support the point source drive units securely, preventing unwanted resonance and ensuring a smooth flow of sound without diffraction or reflection.

The front baffle is designed for maximum stiffness and resonance-damping,
while the monocoque cabinet offers high rigidity, as each side of the cubic structure reinforces the adjacent panels.

The bass reflex port on the rear panel has a ‘parabola’ design, its curvature continuously varying from the inlet to the outlet to suppress turbulence at the exit as well flow-noise within the port, thus delivering smooth and powerful bass with minimum noise.

SU-C700EG-S Stereo Integrated Amplifier

The SU-C700 is a fully-digital amplifier and delivers high-resolution digital signals without any distortion being introduced between the input stage and output to the speakers. The Technics-developed original jitter-reduction circuit avoids the sound quality degradation due to jitter common to conventional digital amps. It uses a clock generator for the noise-shaping system to reduce jitter in the low-frequency range and a high-precision sample rate converter to suppress jitter in the high-frequency range.

The speaker impedance optimisation algorithm – Load Adaptive Phase Calibration – uses digital signal processing to flatten both the amplitude and phase-frequency response to make the most of your speakers. The result is a sound with better focus, spaciousness and definition.

Technics used battery power for low-noise applications in analog amplifiers in the past: here the SU-C700’s battery driven clock generator technology is used to improve digital clock precision, enhancing the definition of the sound.

Covers A Broad Gamut Of The Digital Audio Media Available Today

The SL-G700E supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Apple AirPlay 2 with its high wireless connectivity. It is also compatible with streaming services, such as Spotify, TIDAL, and Internet Radio, and offers Google Chromecast built-in and compatibility with Google Assistant[i].

It is equipped with an MQA decoder for playback. When the MQA decoder is turned on, MQA files and MQA-CD are fully decoded. DSD native playback performs the D/A conversion process for the DSD signal in the SACD recording format without converting it to a PCM signal, thus delivering the full potential of the DSD signal.

The power supply for the clock employs an original battery driven circuit system to achieve high-accuracy D/A conversion. The Dual Mono Construction and symmetrical layout eliminate mutual interference between left and right channels, taking the reproduction of sound imaging and sound space recorded in the source to a higher dimension.

For analogue audio output, the filter circuit located after the D/A conversion determines the quality of the sound. Instead of incorporating an operation amp IC, the SL-G700’s filter has an amp module of original discrete construction. Battery Driven Clock Generator

In the processing of digital audio signals, the quality of the clock affects the sound quality to a large extent. The best power supply for delicate circuitry such as the clock block in the DAC and the audio system clock circuit is one entirely isolated from any noise or fluctuations in the mains supply. Additionally, the audio system clock is supplied from an Ultra-Low Jitter Clock Generator. A low-noise power supply and a high-quality clock circuit realise a sound with the highest transparency.

Optimally Activated Circuit System

The optimally activated circuit system allows the operation of various digital modules to be stopped – such as those used for display , analogue and digital interfaces – to minimise the noise generated when music is playing.

High-Quality Headphone Output

The SL-G700 is equipped with a dedicated D/A circuit for headphones which is independent from that for analogue output. This circuitry incorporates Technics’ original sound processing LSI, the JENO Engine (Jitter Elimination and Noise-shaping Optimisation). Separation of the analogue output from the headphone output eliminates interference between the two circuits. As a result, both outputs provide maximum performance.
Furthermore, the SL-G700 has an operation optimisation system that automatically turns on the JENO Engine when a pair of headphones is connected. This eliminates the adverse effect of the analogue output on the sound quality when headphones are not connected.

What’s more, the Class AA system headphone amp uses separate amp circuits for the audio signal voltage amplification and current amplification. The high-grade operation amp amplifies voltage, and the separate operation amp with high power supply capacity amplifies current. This enables high-precision conversion of the high-resolution PWM signal output from the JENO Engine to an analogue signal. Achieving ideal drive of headphones with a wide range of load impedance, it delivers low-distortion sound across a broad frequency range.

The SL-1000R is part of a long and successful line of reference case turntable technologies. Achieving Optimal Performance With An Exceptional Tonearm And Base

The Technics SL-1000R system features an S-type universal tonearm with a lightweight, high damping magnesium tonearm pipe. The gimbal suspension construction tonearm uses high-precision bearings, and highly-skilled craftsmen handle all assembly and adjustments to achieve a high initial-motion sensitivity to precisely trace the grooves cut into the records. To further ensure the production of highly-vivid sounds, OFC is used for internal wiring, so that the music signal relayed from the cartridge is not dampened and the musical energy cut into the record is not lost.

The tonearm base, to which the tonearm is mounted, is strongly integrated with the turntable. To safeguard exceptional tonearm performance, the tonearm bearings, turntable bearings and needle position remain constant – providing a structure in which the vibration caused by the rigidity of the turntable base materials has minimal effect.

Coreless Direct Drive Motor

The double coil twin rotor-type coreless direct drive motor has coils on both sides for 12-pole, 18-coil drive, and high enough torque to drive the heavyweight-class platter. This achieves stable rotation of 0.015%  wow and flutter or less, which is considered to be the measurement limit.

Suppressing Unwanted Motor Vibration

The motor that was developed for the SL-1200G served as the platform for the direct drive motor. The double coil, reinforced thrust bearings, and a chassis with increased rigidity achieved a stabilised motor with low centre of gravity. By positioning two stainless steel weights with high rigidity and high specific gravity at the bottom of the chassis, the rigidity and low centre of gravity are maintained. These thorough measures to prevent unwanted vibration help to achieve overwhelming rotary precision and improve signal to noise ratio (S/N).

Heavyweight-Class Turntable Platter

The turntable platter positions tungsten weights, which have an extremely high specific weight and are difficult to process, on the outer periphery of a 10-mm-thick brass weight. The brass weight is laminated onto the aluminium die-cast, giving the platter a total weight of approximately 7.9 kg and an inertial mass of approximately 1 ton・cm. A deadening rubber for eliminating unwanted vibration is also attached to the rear surface to form a 3-layer construction and achieve high rigidity and excellent vibration damping characteristics.

Separate Control Unit

To achieve further noise reduction, the control unit is separated from the main unit and its switching power supply is equipped with a unique technology that provides a voltage supply with minimal noise by a newly developed “unwanted noise reduction circuit”. In addition, the communication between the main unit and the control unit is engineered to resist the effects of external noise while increasing reliability.  These noise-reduction measures enable the turntable to achieve the world’s highest level S/N.

Minute Adjustment and Indication of Rotations

This turntable supports not only LP (33 1/3 rpm) and EP (45 rpm) analogue records, but also SP (78 rpm). Rotation (rpm) can also be set down to two decimal places (maximum ±16%) from the control unit. The OLED display is also capable of displaying rotation with accuracy down to two decimal places, so the user can both hear and see extremely precise rotation.

A Rigid Cabinet and High Damping Silicon Insulator

The cabinet has a 2-layer construction consisting of BMC (bulk molding compound) and a 30-mm-thick aluminium top panel. The turntable part is a 3-layer construction comprising BMC, aluminium die-cast, and a 25-mm-thick aluminium top panel. This gives the system a construction of 5 layers of different materials to ensure sufficient rigidity. The insulator that supports the cabinet is a special silicon rubber that combines high vibration damping characteristics and long-term reliability. Reinforcement with a cylindrical tube made of a microcell polymer absorbs vibrations in the horizontal direction. These parts are contained in a zinc die-cast housing with high specific gravity, for isolation from external vibrations.
