Panasonic camcorder lineup offers picture perfect recording for memorable family moments

Panasonic Australia has introduced three new camcorders to its 4K ultra high-definition lineup (the HC-WXF990MGN, the HC-VXF990GNK and HC-VX980MGNK) and three to its Full HD camcorder lineup (the HC-W580MGN-K, the HC-V380GN-K and the HC-V180GN-K).

This year’s range offers outstanding 4K quality as well as clever editing tools and simultaneous recording, allowing users to capture memorable moments in stunning quality and create creative and engaging videos to share.

HC-VXF990GNK (4K) RRP $1,299
HC-VX980MGNK (4K) RRP $999
HC-W580MGN-K RRP $599

The new models will be available in March 2016 from selected photo specialists and consumer electronics retailers.

Outstanding 4K at the touch of a button (HC-WXF990MGN, HC-VXF990GNK, HC-VX980MGNK)

These new compact and lightweight 4K camcorders build on the success of Panasonic’s first 4K camcorders which were introduced to the market last year.  By combining a wealth of advanced imaging technologies such as the LEICA DICOMAR lens, back-illuminated sensor and Crystal Engine 4K, beautiful 4K images that boast four times the resolution of Full-HD can be captured for later viewing.  In addition, high-speed, high-precision auto focus technologies, highly critical for 4K shooting, help to increase image quality further.

When recording in 4K Photo mode, the user can obtain 8-megapixel still images of decisive moments, choosing from an incredible 30 frames per second.  No matter how fast the action, you will never miss the perfect shot.

The HC-WXF990MGN, HC-VXF990GNK and HC-VX980MGNK add new versatility to editing with the 4K Cropping feature that cuts out Full-HD resolution video from 4K footage internally within the camcorder. It allows post edit effects to be added to a recorded video, such as zooming, panning, tracking and stabilising. The edited video is saved in Full-HD format, with the benefit of retaining high definition and crisp detail.

The HC-WXF990MGN and HC-VXF990GNK also offer a tiltable viewfinder to make it easier to capture subjects more precisely. Cinema-Like Effects allow you to apply creative techniques to your video, similar to those seen in the movies, such as Slow & Quick Video, Slow Zoom, and Dolly Zoom.

For example, by combining Slow Video and Quick Video, the user can add dramatic effects to motion-filled scenes. Slow Zooming, which is also often used in cinema films and difficult to do manually, is easy to operate. It lets the user add tension to otherwise simple scenes, and express emotional shifts in subjects. The Dolly Zoom technique zooms only the background while maintaining the subject’s size to express feelings such as confusion, distress, or surprise. The resulting footage can be thrilling and create suspense in the film.

Capture everyone’s memorable moment with simultaneous recording (HC-WXF990MGN, HC-VXF990GNK, HC-VX980MGNK, HC-W580MGN-K and HC-V380GN-K)

Wireless Multi Camera is a new function evolved from Panasonic’s original Wireless Twin Camera, which enables picture-in-picture recording using a Wi-Fi-connected smartphone as a sub-camera.

While Wireless Twin Camera links to only one smartphone, Wireless Multi Camera connects to as many as three smartphones and records up to two sub-window images instead of one. This lets the user shoot from a variety of angles and viewpoints to add interest and impact that simply is not possible with a single-camera view. It opens up a range of shooting possibilities from capturing different angles of a performance, to allowing the family member shooting the scene to become part of the story.

Twin Camera lets you capture alternate shooting scenes (HC-WXF990MGN and HC-W580MGN-K)

The Twin Camera feature with a pan/tilt sub-camera on the edge of the LCD monitor allows simultaneous recording of images from two different angles. Also provided are a Narration mode that emphasises the camera user’s voice in recording and a backup function that simultaneously records images without the sub-window, giving great flexibility to the user.

5-Axis Level Shot function for blur and tilt-free images (All models)

The new camcorders ensure level, vibration free shooting, so those once in a lifetime opportunities are stable and sharp. Panasonic’s Level Shot function automatically detects tilting and levels the image. The HYBRID O.I.S.+ (Optical Image Stabiliser) uses five-axis correction to thoroughly suppress blurring, whether you’re shooting wide-angle or powerful zoom shots, making it possible to capture crisp, clear images in almost every shooting situation.

Versatile zoom (All models)

Panasonic’s three HD models boast a remarkable 50x optical zoom and 90x Intelligent Zoom, allowing you to get closer to the action from sports to scenery. The 4K HC-WXF990MGN, HC-VXF990GNK and HC-VX980MGNK have a versatile 20x optical zoom.

Wide angle capabilities also allow film makers to include more people and more of the background in the frame for truly cinematic results. This is handy when you want to take a group photo in a small room, or fit your subjects in even when you are shooting from up close.

Wi-Fi Function (HC-WXF990MGN, HC-VXF990GNK, HC-VX980MGNK, HC-W580MGN-K, and HC-V380GN-K)

These camcorders include the Baby Monitor feature which enables you to check on a sleeping baby in another room with the camcorder connected to your home network. You can call out to the baby using your smartphone or have a notification sent to your smartphone when your baby’s crying voice or another sound is detected. You can also provide live streaming of video over the Internet using USTREAM.

*Length of pan/zoom approximately either 20 seconds or 40 seconds.

*The viewfinder and LCD monitor cannot be used simultaneously.  Also, since the icons displayed in the viewfinder cannot be operated, open the LCD monitor for touch operation.

The new models will be available in March from selected photographic specialists and consumer electronics retailers.

The DMC-TZ110’s outstanding suite of features see this model set to be the best in class compact travel camera available. At the heart of its performance is the large 1-inch MOS sensor that captures more light, resulting in crisp, clear and natural shots; plus a versatile 10x zoom F2.8-5.9 LEICA DC lens for true-to-life images from landscapes and sunsets to elusive wildlife. This highly pocketable camera also includes Panasonic’s powerful 4K video and 4K Photo capabilities to capture every moment in impressive clarity; and introduces Post Focus to the travel zoom range, which allows users to select their preferred ‘in-focus’ area after taking their shot.

Doug Campbell, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic, said: “The TZ110 offers outstanding image quality for the consumer in a lightweight body. The lineup of features – 10x zoom, high performance sensor and 4K plus precise focus and fast, responsive shooting – make it the ultimate travel compact that won’t disappoint. It is also an amazingly versatile camera that is at home in a range of situations including wildlife, sport, wide angle shooting, portraits and family events.”

The lightweight DMC-TZ80 packs a 30x zoom LEICA lens into its 300g chassis, letting you get close to the action without disturbing the subject, so you’ll never be out of range for that perfect holiday shot – equally suited to both wildlife or candid shots of friends and family. The 18M MOS sensor and 4K capabilities ensure natural results in stunning detail for every special or fleeting moment.

The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMAR 100-400mm F4.0-6.3 ASPH is a compelling addition to the LUMIX G range of powerful and compact interchangeable lenses.

Doug Campbell explained: “As the only 800mm equivalent lens in the Micro Four Thirds lineup, this is the model that enthusiast sports and wildlife photographers have been looking for.”

This telephoto lens offers outstanding performance with incredibly fast Depth from Defocus, and Power O.I.S that works with Panasonic’s Dual I.S system. It is weather sealed, making it highly durable for long days in the field, and is significantly smaller, lighter and more cost effective than comparable SLR lenses.

Key Features

Capture your travels in outstanding quality: LUMIX DMC-TZ110 and LUMIX DMC-TZ80

The new DMC-TZ110 is a premium compact travel camera that boasts performance typically associated with expensive interchangeable lens models. Despite the camera’s small size, the latest addition to the LUMIX TZ range combines a host of features to make it the perfect travel companion for even the most demanding photographers and videographers.

A large 1-inch MOS sensor combines with Panasonic’s Venus Engine to capture consistently bright and beautiful images. The 1-inch sensor’s large pixels are capable of capturing more light, even when photographing at high ISO. Whether taking pictures on a sunny beach or during a candlelit dinner for two, the camera’s exceptional low light performance ensures crisp, clear and natural results with minimal noise.

The LUMIX DMC-TZ110 is the first in its series to incorporate a F2.8-5.9 LEICA DC lens, which allows you to achieve crystal-clear images with amazing detail. The lens also features a versatile 10x zoom range of 25mm-250mm (35mm camera equivalent), making it ideal for photographing all your adventures, wherever your travels take you.

The LUMIX DMC-TZ80 incorporates an 18M high sensitivity MOS sensor, allowing you to capture even the finest details of your travels. The DMC-TZ80’s outstanding optical capability is underpinned by a high-end LEICA lens with 30x zoom (24-720mm), offering versatility from high zoom to close-up shots. The camera’s powerful performance far outweighs its compact body.

Both DMC-TZ110 and DMC-TZ80 models stand out from the pack with Panasonic’s suite of 4K capabilities. They offer 4K video recording that fits in your pocket, with four times the resolution of Full HD to bring the sights and sounds of your travels to life.

Panasonic’s 4K Photo mode incorporates 4K Pre-burst mode which shoots 30 frames per second before and after the shutter is released, to capture the decisive moment with total precision. Even fleeting events such as the exact moment you hit the water diving into the sea, can be captured and enjoyed for a lifetime.

Another new addition to the LUMIX TZ range is Post Focus mode which, once set, allows you to choose the focal point of an image, after it’s been taken. Post Focus uses the LUMIX autofocus capabilities to calculate the distance between the camera and the subject, capturing optimal focus for 49 individual areas within each frame. Once the photo is taken, you can then use the touchscreen to select the exact area you want to focus on – from the minutiae of your subject’s eye, to an individual bird as a flock takes flight. What’s more, from a single photo you can export multiple shots with different focal points.

Once you’ve captured an array of beautiful photos and video, these LUMIX cameras make it fast and simple to share them with friends and family. Using Wi-Fi and the Panasonic Image App, it is easy to connect to a smartphone or tablet, allowing you to post to social media almost as soon as images have been recorded.

Additional features:

  • 3.0-inch 1,040k dot touch screen
  • 5 AXIS HYBRID O.I.S and Level Shot functions
  • 10fps burst photo mode (full resolution – 5fps with AF)
  • Face / eye tracking AF
  • In-camera RAW data development
  • Wide Panorama function
  • Full wireless control and photography via the Panasonic Image App
