Achieve outstanding audio straight from the camera with the new LUMIX G100, a Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera designed and developed for vloggers and online video content creators.
The LUMIX G100 is the first interchangeable lens camera (ILC) to offer OZO Audio[i] – incorporating three microphones that allow the user to capture immersive sound. Whether you are behind the camera narrating, or in front of the lens speaking to camera, the OZO Audio system will track and capture sound, removing the need for an expensive, bulky external microphone.
In addition to making it effortless to capture high-quality audio, the G100 offers the benefits of a compact, lightweight ILC, supported by a range of new functions designed to provide excellent video quality and operating ease for the creative videographer. Newly-introduced on the G100 are content sharing via smartphone at the touch of a button, LUMIX Video Selfie via a free-angle monitor, and Frame Marker with a range of popular aspect ratios. Other capabilities include smooth 4K Video, Quick and Slow video modes, and V-Log L recording pre-installed for precise colour grading.
The exciting new G100 will be available in Australia from late July at photographic specialists and consumer electronics retailers. The body is available in black.
High audio quality by OZO Audio Technologies
With OZO Audio by Nokia, the G100 offers audio with the quality and convenience to truly support today’s explosion of demand for video capture that’s intended for universal playback and shareability across social media platforms. It provides creative empowerment and improved production values for serious content creators who want to stand out with amazing audio, while still working with minimal equipment.
James Choi, Product Marketing Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Australia, explained: “We’re excited to introduce this camera with an all-in-one audio solution unique in its class. It has two significant benefits that make it easier to create really engaging vlogs. Firstly, it can capture sound based on where you are in relation to the camera – so whether you are in front or behind the lens, audio is clear and sharp, actively reducing background noise. Secondly, OZO Audio works together with the G100’s autofocus system to track and follow the sounds of the subject in focus when it is in front of the camera.”
The G100 uses three built-in microphones to track and prioritise the subject while recording sharp, vibrant sound, and all that’s required is to select the most suitable mode. The five modes are Tracking, Surround, Front, Back and Auto.
The Tracking mode is an industry first and a game changer for vloggers and on-camera presenters. It works in conjunction with Panasonic’s Face Recognition technology to analyse the scene and automatically adjust the three microphones to converge on the location of the presenter or the subject. The end result is clear voice recording with consistent levels even when recording in crowds or locations with ambient noise.
The Surround mode records audio in all directions to provide a 360° sound experience, perfect for conveying the ambience of a scene, from the sounds of nature to a sports event.
The Front mode captures sound in front of the camera while suppressing any noise behind the lens. It’s ideal for isolating voices in interviews or when recording live performances such as concerts, theatre shows or corporate presentations.
Back recording is perfect for solo travellers and independent content creators. Generally not practical with an external microphone, the back recording mode opens up new creative opportunities by empowering the camera operator to directly narrate the scene they’re shooting, giving their audience real-time insight into what is happening, as it happens.
Auto mode is best for unpredictable scenes and general recording situations. It automatically switches between tracking and surround modes, allowing the operator behind the camera to interact with a presenter in front of the lens, or seamlessly combine the 360° soundscape of a scene with real-time narration – eliminating the task of editing audio from multiple sources in post-production.
Technical and creative capabilities for convenient, streamlined video capture and sharing
Convenient shooting assist functions and high-quality, stable video
The LUMIX Video Selfie mode captures the vlogger and the background, and the G100 enters this mode when the large 3.0-inch 1840k-dot touch monitor is flipped out to face the user. This free-angle rear monitor is also convenient for taking high and low-angle shots.
Other shooting assist functions for the solo content creator include Frame Marker for checking composition during recording. A wide range of aspect ratios are supported, including those for popular social media platforms – 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 5:4 and 9:16. In addition, the REC Frame Indicator displays an eye-catching red frame for checking at a glance if the camera is recording or not.
The G100 captures smooth 4K video in 3840 x 2160 resolution at 30p/25p/24p[ii]. When recording video, a powerful image stabiliser is indispensable to avoid shaky images. The 5-Axis Hybrid I.S. (Image Stabiliser)[iii] in the G100 provides effective shake suppression for stable, easy-to-watch video in situations such as recording while walking and talking.
Easy connectivity via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and HDMI
Creatives on the move can streamline content sharing with smartphones using Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy connection and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi® (IEEE 802.11b/g/n). With an always-on connection using BLE4.2, images can be geotagged, and a smartphone can be used as the camera’s remote control. A dedicated button on the G100 allows vloggers to quickly transfer images and videos to their smartphone for editing and sharing to social media. The camera also supports video output over HDMI, allowing it to be used as a streaming webcam with exceptional sound, high image quality and rich depth of field.[iv]
High-quality sensor and creative capabilities
The G100 has a 20.3MP MOS Sensor without a Low Pass Filter, for creating sharp images with low noise. This sensor is much larger than that of a smartphone, and this capability provides the benefits of shallower depth of field, enhanced image quality and allows low-light shooting at up to ISO 25600.
Users can create impressive 4x[v]/2x slow and 8x/4x/2x quick FHD motion footage, as well as capturing Time Lapse videos. For advanced videographers, the G100 supports V-Log L recording, which provides a wider dynamic range for colour grading in post-production.
The camera has a high-performance 3,680K-dot equivalent centre-aligned viewfinder. Useful 4K features include LUMIX 4K Photo mode, which allows photographers to capture spur of the moment fast-action shots by shooting at burst speeds of up to 30 frames per second. In addition, Post Focus mode allows the user to choose the focal point of an image after the shot has been taken, and Focus Stacking combines focal points to achieve complete foreground to background focus.
Compact, lightweight design
The G100 is highly compact and mobile. For example, when used with the LUMIX G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. lens, the combined weight is just 412 grams. A new ergonomic Tripod Grip – both a lightweight handgrip and mini tripod – has also been released. The optional DMW-SHGR1 grip[vi] connects via USB to start/stop video recording, release the shutter and enable/disable Sleep mode. The camera battery can be recharged either via AC or USB.
